- How does the Lewmar Anchor Swivel help prevent rope twisting? The Lewmar Anchor Swivel provides a 360-degree swivel connection between the anchor and chain. This allows the rope to swivel as part of the anchoring setup rather than twisting up.
- What chain sizes are compatible with the Lewmar Stainless Anchor Swivel? Chain-size compatibility depends on the model. The SWIVEL312F is designed for 1/4"-5/16" chain, while the SWIVEL500F is designed for 3/8"-1/2" chain. Verify your chain size when selecting the appropriate model.

Lewmar Anchor Line 8 Plait
Lewmar Anchor Rodes feature 8 plait nylon line joined with a tapered splice to ACCO Hi-Test hot-dipped galvanized chain. Each anchor rode comes with a shackle to attach the chain to the anchor.
Features:
Anchor rodes complement rope chain gypsies fitted to all Lewmar windlasses
Chain is hot-dipped galvanized to minimize corrosion
Enables 50% more line in locker than 3-strand rope
Same tensile strength as 3-Strand.
8-Plait nylon rope is 1/3 more absorbent than 3-Strand rope. Weight means line falls better into the anchor locker.
Relaxed line will not twist, knot or loop over itself. 8 Plait falls limp into lockers, eliminating hockles common to 3 strand.
8 individual braided strands woven together rather than twisted make 8 plait supple when relaxed.
Specifications:
Chain: 15' of 1/4" G4 Chain with shackle
Rope: 300' of 1/2" 8PLT, spliced to chain
Recommended for H-900 (Concept 1, V-2&3 use 001 gypsy) Windlasses
Lewmar USA Premium 8-Plaited Nylon Anchor Rope
8-Plait Features:
Eliminates some of the service problems associated with the 3-strand ropes. 8-Plait uses 8-individual braided strands woven together that allow the rope to be relaxed. But, when under load, it tightens up to a firm lay. The higher the load the harder the lay becomes.
Carries the same tensile strength as 3-Strand.
Does not coil or create a "birds nest" in the locker like 3-Strand will. 8-Plait flakes and falls upon itself.
Will not twist and knot up.
Will not loop over onto itself.
Has less stretch so it will not bury itself deep into the gypsy's grip when overloaded, which means less damage to the stripper when the windlass is abused or overloaded.
Pays off of the windlass into the locker much like chain, allowing for better use of smaller locker designs.
80% less prone to becoming stiff when used in salt water than 3-Strand.
1/3 more absorbent than 3-Strand rope. More absorbent means more weight; more weight means better fall into the anchor locker.
Should be soaked in water (salt or fresh - it does not matter) to pre-lubricate the rope so it can be used in the windlass initially. When rope is used dry and new, we have seen either slippage or sticking in the rope pocket of the gypsy. Once the rope is wet and used, it out performs the 3-Strand. The longer it is used the better it gets.
- What size windlass would best suit my boat? Use our windlass selection chart found on page 2 to determine the general size of windlass to be fitted to your boat by using length and displacement. For example, if you have a 10m (33 ft) boat, typically a 270kg (600 lb) pull windlass would be selected. The rule to crosscheck your windlass selection is to add the total weight of the chain and the weight of the anchor together. Rope is very light and does not affect the actual lifting performance of the windlass, but can be factored in. For safe cruising in all types of conditions and sea areas, Lewmar recommends that you multiply the total weight of your anchor and chain x4 (x2 for V6 to V12). This number should be less than the maximum pull of the windlass you have selected. Should your findings be at or more than the maximum pull, select the next largest windlass. The windlass does not stow the anchor rode in the locker. Gravity stows the rode in the locker. There must be a free and clear area under the hawse pipe for the incoming rode to lie; if not, the rode will jam. Your windlass is a retrieval device; the windlass retrieves the anchor and rode. A windlass is not a high-load-bearing device. When at anchor your rode should be secured to a chain stopper, a cleat or other mooring point on the bow.
- How long is the anchor rode I wish to use, and will the windlass put the entire rode into my locker? Begin by examining the depth of the anchor locker to determine the fall that is available. The fall is the vertical distance between the top of the anchor locker and the top of the anchor rode when the entire …

Lewmar Premium 3-Strand Anchor Rodes - Marine Grade with Rope & Galvanized Chain
Lewmar anchor rodes are a great economical choice for boaters looking for a windlass rode. These rodes are designed to work with the rope-chain gypsies fitted to all Lewmar Windlasses and help it operate smoothly. Keep in mind the size of the rode you have chosen and if your anchor locker has enough depth to store the Lewmar Anchor Rodes.
The Lewmar Premium 3-Strand Anchor Rode is made of 3-Strand nylon rope. There are several grades of this rope available. Make sure you are always using a premium windlass grade rope and ensure that the diameter is ½” (.500) or slightly larger, smaller sizes work poorly in ½ gypsies. Lower quality 3-strand rope tends to not lay properly.
Lewmer Anchor Rodes are manufactured with ¼” -5/16” shackles and are calibrated for even pitch. The smooth rope-to-chain transition is welded for greater strength. The whipping of the rope is hand sewn to help prevent unraveling.
These rodes can take on wear and tear and especially in salt-water conditions. If your lines begin to stiffen, soak in a bucket of fresh water and fabric softener. (the longer the better). This should repair some of the flexibility. However, if this doesn’t work your Lewmar anchor rodes should be replaced.
Features:
Designed to complement the rope-chain gypsies fitted to all Lewmar windlasses
1/4" G4 - 5/16" Shackle
Calibrated for even pitch
Hot dip galvanized to minimize corrosion
Welded for high strength
Smooth rope-to-chain transition
Helps your windlass operate smoothly
Hand-sewn whipping guarantees against unraveling
Frequently Asked Questions
- What are Lewmar Premium 3-Strand Anchor Rodes designed for? Lewmar Premium 3-Strand Anchor Rodes are designed for use as windlass rodes with the rope-chain gypsies fitted to Lewmar windlasses. The rode combines 3-strand nylon rope with hot-dip galvanized chain and is designed to provide a smooth transition between the rope and chain during windlass operation.
- What size rope is recommended for Lewmar Premium 3-Strand Anchor Rodes? The product information recommends using premium windlass-grade 3-strand nylon rope with a diameter of 1/2 inch (.500) or slightly larger. Smaller rope sizes may work poorly in 1/2-inch gypsies, while lower-quality 3-strand rope may not lay properly.
- What type of shackle and chain are used with Lewmar Premium Anchor Rodes? Lewmar Premium Anchor Rodes are manufactured with 1/4- to 5/16-inch shackles and calibrated for even chain pitch. The chain is hot-dip galvanized to help minimize corrosion, and the rope-to-chain transition is welded for high strength.
- How do Lewmar Premium Anchor Rodes help a windlass operate smoothly? These rodes are designed to complement the rope-chain gypsies fitted to Lewmar windlasses. The calibrated chain and smooth rope-to-chain transition help the rode move through the windlass properly during operation.
- How should a stiff Lewmar Premium 3-Strand Anchor Rode be maintained? If the line begins to stiffen, the product information recommends soaking it in a bucket of fresh water and fabric softener, preferably for an extended period. If this does not restore flexibility, the Lewmar anchor rode should be replaced.
- How is the rope on Lewmar Premium Anchor Rodes finished to help prevent unraveling? The rope uses hand-sewn whipping to help prevent unraveling. The rope-to-chain transition is also welded for high strength, providing a finished connection between the 3-strand nylon rope and galvanized chain.
