- How Much Pettit Unepoxy HRT Do I Need for My Boat? Refer to the chart below to calculate how much Unepoxy HRT paint you will need for your boat.
Calculate the square footage of the hull to be painted - multiply the length of the hull by the beam then multiply that total by .85
Divide that number (your square foot total) by the amount of coverage Unepoxy HRT provides. (500 square foot per gallon). This will give you a one-coat total.
Example: If your boat has a length of 28', and a beam of 8.5', you will multiply 28 x 8.5 x .85 to get your total square footage. The total square footage for this boat is 202.3 square feet. A gallon of Unepoxy HRT has a coverage of 500 square feet per gallon for one coat, so one gallon will be enough for two coats.
How to Apply Pettit Unepoxy HRT
Unepoxy HRT is easily applied by brush, roller, or spray. When rolling, use only a high-quality short nap roller cover. Apply using thin coats. For the smoothest possible finish, thin the paint approximately 5-10% using 120 Brushing Thinner. Unepoxy HRT has a tendency for settling to occur, especially if the paint has been on the shelf for several months. Thoroughly mix the paint before using. Before using, check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been mixed in.

Previously Painted Surfaces
For old hard and ablative bottom paints, begin by thoroughly wiping down the surface with 120 Brushing Thinner. Pay extra attention to waterline areas. Then sand the painted surface with 80 grit sandpaper.
Old tin or copper copolymers, or Teflon-based antifouling paints should be sanded thoroughly with 80 grit sandpaper to remove the chalky outer surface. Wipe clean ten apply one coat of Unepoxy HRT.
Soft, sloughing antifouling paints should be removed before applying Unepoxy HRT.
