Davis Whale Tail XL Stabilizer
The Davis Whale Tail XL is an aluminum stabilizer and ski boat fin. With this stabilizer, you can improve the performance in any I/O or outboard motor. The Whale Tail XL extends out behind the propeller to utilize prop wash energy which is normally lost. Whale Tail transforms this energy into lift for immediate response when the throttle is applied. The Whale Tail XL also flattens the wake for water skiing, creating positive, skin-free turns. Use the Whale Tail XL year-round in freshwater or saltwater to improve performance of any boat!
Features:
Unique hydrodynamic design
Stabilizes bow-light boats
Pops skiers up in less time
With bow lowered, visibility is improved-and safety
Smooths out ride in rough water
Reduces porpoising and cavitating
Increases top speed and fuel savings in most applications
Marine-grade aluminum with durable anodized finish
The Davis Whale Tail XL installs in 15 minutes and includes stainless steel hardware!
How to Install a Davis Whale Tail XL Stabilizer
The Whale Tail XL mounts on the anti-cavitation plate of all inboard/outboards and outboards.
Locate the anti-cavitation plate (the horizontal plate just above the propeller). Slide the whale Tail onto the flat side of the anti-cavitation plate, preferably its underside.
Note: Leave no space between the cut out of the Whale Tail and the back of the anti-cavitation plate. On Volvo inboard/outboards, mount Whale Tail on top.
Clamp the Whale Tail in place. Using a 1/4" (6.5 mm) drill bit and the holes in the Whale Tail as a guide, drill four holes through the anti-cavitation plate.
On Volvo, drill through the hollow exhaust anti-cavitation plate.
Note: if the holes in the Whale Tail do not work on your anti-cavitation plate, drill new holes in the Whale Tail for maximum strength.
Insert a 1/4" (6.5mm) bolt in the hole just drilled, the head of the bolt on the Whale Tail side.
Install washer and nut and tighten snugly. Do not over-tighten.
On Volvo, longer bolts will be required: 1/4 x 2" (6.5 mm x 5.4 cm).

Davis Doel-Fin Boat Stabilizer Fin
Doel-Fin is the original hydrofoil developed by an aeronautical engineer to improve overall performance on all boats with outboard motors or outdrive units. Molded in two pieces of guaranteed unbreakable, high-strength plastic, each foil is designed to flex independently to absorb shock. The positive effects include greater stability, consistent planing at lower RPM, faster out-of-the hole performance, better gas mileage, steadier turns, higher top-end speeds and lower bow rise at all speeds. Doel-Fin is designed for use with small motors, big motors and inflatable dingies. Boats with small motors no longer porpoise with the bow-up when the throttle is applied, and they can achieve planing at lower engine speeds. Big motors benefit from less stern suction, faster planing times, and steadier turns. All of these features add up to increased fuel efficiency.
Fits all motors except Volvo Penta 280 and 290 outdrives.
Features:
Improves overall performance om boats with outboard motors or outdrive units
Constructed of unbreakable, high-strength plastic
Produces maximum lift while minimizing drag
Faster out-of-the-hole for happier water skiers
Save up to 30% on fuel consumption
Less bow rise for better visibility and increased safety
Simple 15 minute installation
Mounting hardware included

Davis Shockles LineSnubber
The Davis Shockles LineSnubber is used as shock absorbers on dock lines and anchor lines to reduce loads, minimize chafe, and increase safety. Tensions and loads on a dock or mooring change as tidal surges, wakes, winds, and currents change; shockles absorb shock loads on mooring lines, making the lines last longer. With Davis Shockles, you can put an end to jarring and snapping at the end of the line, making time aboard more comfortable. Shockles also safely absorb sudden shock loads such as those at the end of a tow line or created by a dinghy tied on deck. These Shockles make life at the dock or at a mooring safer and more comfortable.
Shockles are strong, but they need to be rigged in-line so they never bear the full load alone. Six to twelve inches of slack is recommended; increase line slack to a maximum of 12" as loads increase. The patented internal line limiter is made of 2500 lb. test nylon webbing. LineSnubber's outer sheath is 3500 lb. test tubular nylon webbing that is UV resistant to protect internal parts.

Davis Illuminated Hand Bearing Compass
Using a Davis Instruments precision marine hand bearing compass, you can easily obtain quick magnetic bearings on shore or floating objects. Obtain a bearing simply by aligning front and rear sights on an object and reading off bearing. This compass is excellent for yachtsmen, racers, and fishermen. Uses include quick bearing or position set, determination of angular gain or loss on the competition while racing, checking distance offshore, establishing lee-bow set while cruising or racing in currents, drift vectoring, and plotting a line of position.
Features a liquid-damped compass card graduated in 5 degree segments and a large, contoured handle. This illuminated model has a solid-state LED illumination system which floods the compass capsule and sight vane with soft light. The LED will last for the lifetime of the compass. Lanyard and instructions included.
How to Use Your Davis Illuminated Hand Bearing Compass
Sighting objects
Hold the compass in a relaxed position at arms length, with the yellow cursor line facing you. With the compass slightly tipped so both pointers are visible, rotate your arm and upper body until both pointers are in-line with the object being sighted. Read the magnetic bearing as it appears at the yellow cursor line.
Navigating Using your Sightings
A line of position is easy to obtain. Find an object that is easy to identify on a chart and take a sighting to determine its magnetic bearing.
Draw a line from the object using its magnetic bearing and you know that you are somewhere along that line of position. Take a sighting of another object and plot its line of position. Your position is where the two lines cross.
Plotting Distance Offshore
This is easiest and most accurate when your compass course is roughly parallel to the shoreline. You must also know your speed over ground.
Note the exact time that you are abeam of (perpendicular to) or 45 degrees of a prominent object on shore like a lighthouse, smoke stack or radio tower.
Take the exact time again when you are perpendicular to or 45 degrees off the object. Plot these sightings on the chart and, with your distance run as one leg, you have a right triangle.
Your speed multiplied by the time equals both your distance offshore and the distance run.
Predicting Collision Course
Take a sighting on any moving or stationary object that you suspect might be on a collision course and note its bearing. If repeated sightings yield the same bearing, you are on a collision course. Note that a collision course with a stationary object means that you are being "set" by drift or tide and you must alter course to avoid a collision.
Checking Drift While at Anchor
Take sightings on any two or more objects on the shore and write them down. Radical changes in their magnetic bearings could indicate that your anchor is dragging.
